How Clamber Up works

Every subject is a map of small skills joined by prerequisites. Clamber Up finds where a climber is on that map, teaches the next skill when it is ready, and keeps older skills fresh with spaced reviews.

  1. Find the starting point

A short placement (up to 12 questions in math, adapting to each answer) finds what a climber already knows. English & Reading has its own placement. Either one can be skipped to start from the beginning.

  2. See the skill map

The skill map shows every skill and its prerequisites, colored by status: stable, practiced, placed, ready to learn or locked. Skills that aren't open yet list exactly which prerequisite is missing.

  3. Lessons and reviews in short sessions

A session lasts 15, 25 and 40 minutes. Reviews that are due come first; then, when the reviews are done, at most one new skill opens with a worked example followed by practice problems. Reviews are spaced out (1, then 3, then 7 days and more), and a skill counts as stable after three successful spaced reviews. Two misses in a row end the task and step back to the weakest prerequisite, then try again.

  4. Choose a skill

The planned session is always the default. With “Choose a skill”, a climber (or the tutor) can practice any unlocked skill instead, and “Back to where you were” leads back up after a slip. Work on a chosen skill counts like any other, and skills far below the climber's grade earn less XP.

  5. Scratchpad and history

Every math problem has a scratchpad for working it out. Each problem a climber sees is kept in History, with the answer given and the time taken, for the family or tutor to look back on.

  6. XP and levels

XP rewards effort rather than speed: quick guesses earn nothing, honest tries earn a little, and a daily soft cap keeps very long days from paying more. The levels run from Trailhead to Summit.

Questions

Do children need an email address?

No. A parent, guardian or tutor signs in with an adult account and adds each child as a climber profile.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. A new account starts with a 14-day free trial with every subject and up to 5 climbers. No card is needed for the trial.

Can I sign up today?

Yes. Clamber Up is in a soft launch: anyone can create an account, and we review each new account and approve it before it can start. Questions: info@clamber-up.com.

What devices does it run on?

It runs in a web browser on computers, tablets and phones. The scratchpad works with a mouse, a finger or a pen.

Is climber data sold, licensed or used to train AI?

No. At this time Clamber Up shows no ads, doesn't sell personal information, doesn't license climber data (including de-identified scratchpad work) to anyone, and doesn't use climber data to train AI models. This is how things stand at this time. Any future change to these points would come only with a new notice and new, separate consent from the parent or guardian.

Can a climber choose what to practice?

Yes. The planned session is the default, and “Choose a skill” lets a climber practice any skill whose prerequisites are done. Locked skills can never be chosen.
